Featured Story: Lewis and Clark NF road reclamation in the news!
Montana's Lewis and Clark National Forest has been doing some fantastic projects with their Legacy Roads and Trails Remediation Program money.  Adam Rissien and I spent all day in the field with staff from the L&C, checking out their great work.  The Great Falls Tribune and two local t.v. stations came out as well.

A conservation group charges that much of Cron's trail work exceeds the scope of mere "maintenance," and accuses Forest Service officials of turning a blind eye to a growing network of unauthorized "extreme" downhill bike trails.

News: Closures triggered by illegal ORV use
Last year the Pagosa Springs Journal reported motorized violations into the Weminuche Wilderness, Colorado's largest Congressionally designated Wilderness area, and now the Forest Service may have to close a portion of it since the violations continued this year. News: Court rules that ATV drivers subject to New Mexico's drunken driving law, penalties
The state Court of Appeals has ruled that all-terrain vehicle drivers can be prosecuted for drunken driving, including felony charges for repeat offenders, just like motorists in cars and trucks.

News: Damaged Forest Service roads to remain barricaded during early hunting seasons
A large snowpack followed by high runoff this spring left numerous U.S. Forest Service roads severely damaged this season, and due to the extent of the problems and lack of available funds, some roads will remain closed until repairs can be implemented.

Put simply, the more open motorized routes in an area, the lower the quality of the wildlife habitat and less desirable it is for elk and deer to utilize or stay in that area.

Resource: Y'all Jump!
We came across this USFS website recently and found some good information on culvert design and fish passage. There is some pretty technical stuff as well, but we really enjoyed the video section--particularly "Y'all Jump".
